Description
2 primary schools from the neighborhood come to sleep at Wiels
CAMPING WIELS is a project developed in a collaboration between WIELS and the artistic-educational organisation MUS-E Belgium. CAMPING WIELS is a long term artistic project conceived for the children of French and Dutch speaking primary schools of the Forest/Vorst community. (Public Schools #9 and 11B)
During 10 weeks, the artists meet the children at school in order to develop an artistic project around the concept of 'Living': Where do people live? How is their home built? What are the cultural similarities and differences that are linked to their home? Does a universal home or ideal house exist?
Such a theme can get a more political aspect when expanded to problems such as homeless people or illegal immigrants. This subject is explored and extended by an artistic installation in which the children can spend a night. A way to disturb the habits, to make the children aware of the notions of comfort/precariousness, to leave their daily experience behind...
CAMPING WIELS is the conclusion of the 10-week workshop, during which the art centre is transformed into a 'camping site' where the children are immersed in art for one day and one night. In the morning, the children's parents, teachers and friends are invited to have breakfast together at Wiels : a moment of exchange that also allows everyone to become more familiar with the internationally renowned art centre that recently opened in the neighborhood
