Benjamin Verdonck Collectie

About this exhibition
In May 2008 Benjamin Verdonck will be our guest at the festival with COLLECTIE. This is an assemblage of “useless” objects, models and drawings that he has collected in the course of his artistic career.
In 2004 Benjamin Verdonck astonished a lot of people in Brussels with his Hirondelle/Dooi vogeltje/The Great Swallow. It was a seven-day performance in a swallow’s nest 31 metres above Anspachlaan. In 2005 he made the wordless wewilllivestorm, in which the leading parts were played by worthless objects, and in 2006 he created BOOT for the Rooseveltplaats in Antwerp. The models and drawings for this work, which was never built, have been exhibited at MuHKA in Antwerp and the Kunsthalle in Budapest. In May 2008 Benjamin Verdonck will be our guest at the festival with COLLECTIE. This is an assemblage of “useless” objects, models and drawings that he has collected in the course of his artistic career. Objects originating from the blind spot in our consumer society are given a new use. Hidden potentials are revealed. The fertile breeding ground of an enormous – parasitic –semiotic system.
