Design September : Brainport Design for Happy Living

Description

The exhibition Brainport Design for Happy Living is travelling around Europe. After the Helsinki Design Week in September this year, the exhibition travels in the same month to Design September in Brussels. "Brainport Design for Happy Living" represents conceptual and industrial design products with the unique character from Brainport Eindhoven.

Designers and producers are noticing that people are paying more attention to the real value of products these days, and that they are not so easily swayed by the madness of the day. A product must have essential meaning or else it will not be purchased.

The twelve products displayed by Design Connection Brainport at the "Brainport Design for Happy Living" exhibition are all examples of products with a meaning. Sometimes implicitly, as with Kiki van Eijk’s Soft Series, which fascinates people and makes them want to touch it. Sometimes the meaning is crystal-clear, as with the Bobike bicycle seats. The care and attention can be in the product itself as is the case with the Spine chair, while a product such as Soundsteps shows children alternatives to the computer games.

For each product in the exhibition, the designers have found a form in which they could materialise care and attention. Some designers have gone a step further; manufacturing their own products in order to be certain that the care and attention they have in mind will also be given priority during the production phase. Other designers work together with manufacturers who understand this mentality just as well as the designers themselves do.
