About this event
Maurizio Lazzarato is an independent researcher, philosopher and sociologist. He wrote on immaterial labour, the end of the wage system, and contemporary cognitive capitalism. His theory of “infinite debt” as a new form of domination casts a new light on our current crisis. He is the author of The Making of the Indebted Man. Essay on the Neoliberal Condition (Semiotext(e), 2012).
In his new book Lazzarato elaborates on the ideas outlined in The Making of the Indebted Man. "What happens to the indebted man during a crisis? What is his main activity? The answer is very simple: he pays. The "crisis" of debt appears as a device to capture and redistribute social wealth as a political strategy, that is, as a device of government. This book proposes a theory of the "new state capitalism" that arose in the transition from Fordism to post-Fordism, and which defends the "refusal of work" expressed by the revolts that shake the world since 2007.
