Book nowHet werk van kunstenares Otobong Nkanga, geboren in Nigeria en woonachtig in Antwerpen, presenteert zich als een metonymie: ze gebruikt natuurlijke grondstoffen om te onthullen hoe relatief de culturele waarde en functie van dezelfde producten van cultuur tot cultuur wel zijn.
In haar lezing zal Nkanga zich richten op een reeks locatie-specifieke werken, die werden tentoongesteld in verschillende geografische contexten. Haar recente performances en installaties, zoals Contained Measures of Shifting States, Taste of a Stone: Itiat Esa Ufok en Glimmer, spelen in op de aanwezigheid van het publiek en de manieren waarop het lichaam zichzelf in de ruimte positioneert om een discussie of reflectie uit te lokken. Door de tentoonstellingsruimte als een experimentele plek te benaderen, kan het werk ter plaatse worden (om)gevormd.
